The Dangerous Goods Awareness (also referred to as Recognition and Properties of Dangerous Goods) course provides information necessary for the participant to satisfy the basic requirements of the various Dangerous Goods Regulations covering transport and/or storage. Content includes identification and handling, safety precautions and equipment, and compliance with the applicable statutory requirements.

This is an introductory course, and some personnel in specific roles may
be required to attend Authority approved training courses (eg. AMSA,
IATA)
Interface with transport is also included - tailored towards Road, Sea, or Air transport or a combination of these.
Responsibilities of all parties are covered, packer, consignor, driver, loader, and transport prime contractor.
The course is customised specifically to meet the needs and interests of the participants, and is delivered in a manner that ensures high levels of interest and learning retention.
COURSE CONTENT - THEORY
• Introduction
• Acts and Regulations
• Safe Storage and Transport Principles
• Roles and Responsibilities of all involved parties
• Overview of all classes of Dangerous Goods concentrating on those handled by the client
• Difference between dangerous goods and hazardous substances
• Examination of Emergency Procedure Guides and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
COURSE CONTENT - PRACTICAL
A series of table-top demonstrations can be used to illustrate properties of various Classes, however this is entirely the choice of the client and may depend on the location of the course.This may extend the duration of the course.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment is via a short questionnaire, and can be done as a group.
DURATION
Nominal duration of the course is 4 hours.
