COURSE INFORMATION

Dogging covers the application of slinging techniques including the selection and inspection of lifting gear, and also covers the directing of crane or hoist operators in the movement of loads, including when loads are out of sight of the Crane Driver.

The course is competency based, and successful applicants who attain the necessary competence may be eligible to apply for the issue of a WorkSafe Licence.

The course is aligned to the Competency Standards contained within National Training Packages.

  • Acts and Regulations
  • Personal safety equipment
  • Rule of Thumb Formulas
  • Slinging and Safe Working Loads
  • Calculating areas, volumes and weights
  • Identification, inspection, handling, storage and maintenance of lifting gear
  • Basic mobile crane operations
  • Communication systems
  • Slinging and handling loads

PRACTICAL EXERCISES

  • Fibre ropes - whipping, knots and splicing
  • Lifting gear inspection, identification, handling and storage
  • Site and job planning
  • Correct slinging techniques
  • Whistle and Hand Signals
  • Slinging, lifting, moving and placing loads using whistle and hand signals
    when in full view and out of sight of the crane operator.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment is against the national Standard and Assessment Instrument, which are accepted in all states and territories. Assessors are fully licensed and accredited and we have third party appeal procedures in place that you might access if you disagree with any assessment outcome.
