HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES COURSE

COURSE INFORMATION

The Hazardous Substances course provides all information necessary to satisfy the training requirements listed under the Code of Practice.

Content includes identification and handling, safety precautions and equipment, and compliance with the applicable statutory requirements. It is customised specifically to meet the needs and interests of the participants, and is delivered in a manner that ensures high levels of interest and learning retention.

COURSE CONTENT - THEORY

• Introduction
• Acts and Regulations
• Overview of Hazardous Substances
• Hazardous Substances versus Dangerous Goods.
• What must legally be done?
• Detailed perspective on commonly encountered substances.
• Handling criteria in detail and Exposure Standards
• Item and Risk identification shortcuts (familiarity of hazards).
• Safety & Personal Protective Equipment
• Labels and “MSDS” – products in use
• Key Risk Phrases (health effects).
• Emergency Control, 1 st Aid - General.

COURSE AND ASSESSMENT

This program will include a combination of group discussions, demonstrations, explanatory sessions.

Assessment is by questionnaire and group discussion, and is focused on substances in the workplace.

NOMINAL DURATION

Nominal duration for this course is 4 hours, which may be delivered in modules if appropriate.
