COURSE INFORMATION

The Basic training course is designed for participants who have had limited or no prior experience in the operation of forklift trucks, and to set a safe and competent operating standard. Participants should gain the expertise to allow them to successfully pass a theory and practical examination for a National WorkSafe Licence.

Dependent upon the expertise of the participant, the course may run for up to 4 days.

The 1 day course is designed for those who have experience in the operation of forklift trucks under the supervision of a licensed operator, and require minimal training prior to competency assessment for the National Licence.

The Refresher update is designed for licensed operators. It reviews theory and practical aspects of forklift truck operation, updates and reinforces the responsibilities of operators, and discusses any challenges that they may have encountered. This course can include company specific needs, and has a nominal course duration of four hours.

COURSE CONTENT- THEORY

• Acts and Regulations
• Operational Checks: pre start, planning, after start
• Various types of forklift trucks, and types of fuel
• Attachments and controls
• Data plates/load charts
• Operational techniques-lifting, lowering and positioning loads correctly
• Speed, Visibility, and Travelling-loaded, unloaded and inclines
• Safety of other personnel
• Load centres and Centre of Gravity
• Safe shutdown and parking

PRACTICAL EXERCISES

• Routine machine checks
• Planning the task
• Use of different fork lift trucks
• Basic operational exercises, including lifting, lowering, stacking into racks, stacks and trailer
• Use of different attachments

ASSESSMENT

Assessment is against the National Standard and Assessment Instruments, which are common in all states and territories. Assessors are fully licensed and accredited and we have third party appeal procedures in place that you might access if you disagree with any assessment outcome.
